PART TIME FAMILY AND YOUTH COORDINATOR

Cedar Hill United Church requires a Family and Youth Coordinator to help grow and deepen the involvement of children, youth, and young adults in our community of faith – not only by increasing participation in Sunday School, but by engaging them in meaningful and exciting ways that nurture their faith and reflect their unique interests.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

​-Attendance at Church on Sundays is a requirement.
-Sunday School for Children:

● Collaborate with the Faith Formation committee, volunteer teachers, and the minister to carry out a theologically suitable Sunday School program for children.

● Manage a roster and schedule of Sunday School teachers and be ready to step in as a substitute teacher when necessary.

● In collaboration with the minister, offer pastoral and spiritual support to children, youth and their families, as required.

● Foster the development of volunteer teachers by assisting them in planning and using the Sunday School curriculum, providing them with schedules, program information, necessary supplies, and support.

● Keep staff, parents, and congregation members informed about Sunday School plans and activities through various communication channels such as phone calls, in-person meetings, bulletin announcements, newsletter articles, and social media.

-Children, Youth and Families Ministry:

● Work directly with the Faith Formation committee to develop programs specifically for children and youth and create intergenerational connections.

● Collaborate to design and implement weekly, monthly, and seasonal activities for youth and families within the congregation. These initiatives should also aim to engage and attract the wider community.

● Develop and maintain connections with young adults in the faith community and by extension the wider community.

● In collaboration with the minister, provide pastoral care to youth and families in the community providing support during periods of change, transition, and crisis.

● Collaborate with the ordained minister and other members of the congregation to develop

intergenerational worship services/Contemporary Worship periodically throughout the year.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

● A baptized lay person who is familiar with the United Church of Canada and its values, theology and liturgy, OR a diaconal minister, OR an order of ministry student who has experience with this type of ministry. Although some theological education is desirable, formal accreditation is not required.

● Proven ability to build community connections and experience in providing pastoral care to people in various stages of life.

● Strong leadership skills, including the ability to facilitate team development and work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.

● Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to listen actively.

● Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute successful events, programs, and other initiatives.

● Experience working with children and youth, and a strong commitment to nurturing their faith development.

● Proficient in the use of technology and social media for communication and outreach.

● Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Part time position – 10 hours per week. Weekly schedule will be flexible and dependent on priorities.

Rate of Pay: $28 - $34. per hour
